Nawazuddin Siddiqui is facing backlash after appearing in an online poker ad. The ad shows the actor dressed as a Maharashtra police officer while promoting poker, which has upset many.
FPJ reported that a Hindu organisation has accused Nawazuddin of damaging the image of the Maharashtra police and is demanding legal action.
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, a religious group, has filed an official complaint. They have asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Maharashtra’s Director General of Police to take action against both Nawazuddin and Ankur Singh, the owner of Big Cash Poker, the platform featured in the ad.

The group claims that the ad disrespects the police and portrays them in a bad light. By having a police officer character encouraging poker, they believe it tarnishes the reputation of law enforcement in the state.
Adding to the controversy, Surajya Abhiyan, a campaign run by the same organisation, is calling for strict measures. They argue that the ad harms the police’s image by comparing their skills to those gained from gambling.
Abhishek Murukate, who coordinates the campaign in Maharashtra, has written to the state’s DGP and Mumbai Police Commissioner. He asked for legal action under the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules, 1979, and the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. He said that showing police officers in such ads is disrespectful and could lead to more ads wrongly using police uniforms.
Abhishek also pointed out that the police force often arrests people for gambling crimes, yet they are being shown promoting it in this ad. He added that it is unfortunate that no police official has spoken out about this issue, forcing others to step in.
Nawazuddin has not yet responded to the controversy, and it’s unclear how the legal situation will play out.
