Nawazuddin Siddiqui Remembers Sridevi As MOM Clocks 7 Years: ‘Even Today, I Miss Her Dearly’

MOM, directed by Ravi Udyawar, recently completed seven years of its release. The film stars the legendary Sridevi alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna, portraying a story where a mother takes on the role of a vigilante seeking justice for her stepdaughter who was sexually assaulted. 

Despite its modest budget of Rs 30 crore, MOM exceeded expectations by grossing over Rs 100 crore, becoming a significant part of Sridevi’s cinematic legacy as her final film. Reflecting on this milestone, Nawazuddin Siddique shared his heartfelt thoughts on working alongside the iconic actress.

On his Instagram Stories, Siddique posted a video with clips from MOM, including a segment from Sridevi’s interview. “Even today, I miss Sridevi dearly. Working with her in MOM was both a privilege and a joy. Thanks for your kind words,” he wrote.

In the video, Sridevi praises Nawazuddin’s acting talent, saying, “It’s really wonderful to see him on the screen. He is a gifted actor. I am a huge admirer of his work, and I have so much respect for him as an actor.” Her admiration for Siddique was echoed by director Ravi Udyawar.

Udyawar, during a promotional event, explained, “There is a reason audiences and the industry alike refer to Nawazuddin as one of the finest actors in the country. When I explained his look to him, he was really excited because it gave him the opportunity to do something different, and as an actor, he is constantly on the lookout for doing something that challenges him.”

Released on July 7, 2017, MOM captivated audiences with its compelling thriller narrative and impactful performances. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, the film portrays a mother’s relentless pursuit of justice after her stepdaughter is brutally assaulted. Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrayed a private detective in the film, showcasing his versatility and skill in adapting to diverse roles. The movie also featured Akshaye Khanna, Sajal Aly, and Adnan Siddiqui, with music composed by AR Rahman.

In MOM, Sridevi starred as a teacher who seeks vengeance against the men responsible for the horrific assault on her stepdaughter, leading to their deaths. Her powerful performance earned her the posthumous National Award for Best Actress in 2018. MOM marked Sridevi’s final lead role in a film, although she made a special appearance in Aanand L Rai’s Zero. Despite being made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, the film surpassed expectations by grossing over Rs 100 crore at the box office.

How Sridevi Died?

About Sridevi’s passing, she was tragically found deceased in the bathtub of her room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai on February 28, 2018. The autopsy concluded her cause of death as ‘accidental drowning’.

On the professional front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently appeared in Haddi, released on the OTT platform Zee5. His latest project, Rautu Ka Raaz, a mystery drama directed by Anand Surapur, also premiered on Zee5 on June 28. The film co-stars Atul Tiwari, Rajesh Kumar, and Narayani Shastri.
