Neha Dhupia Joins Shashank Khaitan’s Single Papa with Kunal Kemmu; Netflix’s Slice-Of-Life Drama in Final Round of Shooting
As Shashank Khaitan finished up the much-anticipated Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, the acclaimed director is straight on to his next project — his OTT debut.
Named Single Papa, the Netflix original represents a refreshing foray into the family-slice-of-life genre, and now Neha Dhupia officially joins the on-screen cast.
Boasting Kunal Kemmu in the lead, the series deals with the nuances of single parenting in a disorganised yet loving Indian family context. According to trusted sources in the film industry, Neha Dhupia will play one of the prominent and pivotal roles, where she will lend her experienced presence to a narrative that feels grounded yet sweetly exaggerated.
A New Role For Neha Dhupia
This new phase in Neha’s journey is a return to centre-screen activity. The actress is recognised for her dramatic performances in films like Tumhari Sulu and A Thursday for bringing nuance and layers to her characters.
The tone of the show is said to be:
“a modern-day take on parenting, relationships, and adulting,”
and has mild references to cult hits like Pyaar Ka Punchnama but with more emotional weight added on top of it.
“The shoot is at the end phase stage,” a source who is close to production shared. “The show is mostly slice-of-life with feel-good moments and are deeply emotional characters. This is Shashank Khaitan’s passion project and Kunal and Neha make a great pair.”
Dual Slate By Shashank Khaitan: For Both Theatrical & Digital
While Single Papa is being fully set for Netflix release, Shashank’s theatrical biggie Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (produced by Dharma Productions) is locked in to be released on September 12th, 2025!
The rom-com has an all-star lineup with Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan returning again after their good pairing in Bawaal.
Khaitan’s move onto a digital platform (Single Papa) only further solidifies a growing trend among Bollywood’s top directors who are now including OTT storytelling formats.
