Netizens are reminded of Shah Rukh Khan’s 1989 film ‘Umeed,’ drawing a comparison with the popular Amazon show of TVF’s ‘Panchayat’

While fans of 'Panchayat' are still adoring the second season, some have dug up an old television film from 1989 and begun drawing comparisons between Panchayat and the film 'Umeed.'

The second season of ‘Panchayat’ has been a huge success. The show’s simplicity and kindness, as well as all of the characters, have been praised by fans. Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, and Sanvikaawas appear in the famous comedy-drama series directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra.

The show followed the lives of Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar), an engineering graduate who works as a Panchayat secretary in a small village in Uttar Pradesh called Phulera due to a lack of better job opportunities.

While fans of ‘Panchayat’ are still adoring the second season, some have dug up an old television film from 1989 and begun drawing comparisons between Panchayat and the film ‘Umeed.’

Shah Rukh Khan, like Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar), is assigned to a village as a banker in the 1989 film Umeed.

Fans pointed out in a series of tweets that Shah Rukh Khan has previously played characters such as Mohan Bhargav in Swades and ‘Bank Babu’ in Doordarshan’s Umeed.

This is a strangely pleasing coincidence, as Panchayat actor Jitendra Kumar recently claimed in an interview with Bollywood Hungama that Shah Rukh Khan would have been the ideal candidate for the character of Sachiv if Panchayat 2 had been created in the 1990s.
