Nag Ashwin‘s sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD is facing new controversy just ahead of its much-anticipated release, as allegations of plagiarism swirl around its production.
Another Hollywood concept artist Oliver Beck has accused the film’s makers of appropriating his work, which he claims to have created for Star Trek: Prodigy.
Hollywood Artist Oliver Beck Claims Kalki 2898 AD Makers Copied His Work
In a recent revelation that shocked everyone, Beck shared side-by-side comparisons of his original artwork for Star Trek and screenshots from the Kalki 2898 AD trailer.
He expressed disappointment over what he perceives as the uncredited use of his creations in the Indian film. “Sad to see that some of the work I did for Star Trek: Prodigy got stolen by Vyjayanthi Movies in their trailer,” Beck stated, highlighting the similarities between his matte paintings and those featured in the trailer.
Beck Reveals Kalki Makers Approached Him To Work On The Film
Moreover, Beck disclosed in an interview that he had been approached by Indian filmmakers regarding a potential collaboration on Kalki 2898 AD. He suggested that the familiarity with his portfolio and the subsequent use of similar designs in the film trailer cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence.
“It’s too much of a coincidence because they also contacted me to work on this film. So, they know my portfolio and have seen my work,” Beck explained to The Indian Express, emphasising the circumstantial evidence supporting his claims.

From a legal perspective, Beck acknowledged the challenges of pursuing his allegations, noting that while the similarities are evident to seasoned artists, proving copyright infringement can be complex without exact replication.
Another Plagiarism Accusation On Prabhas Starrer
This isn’t the first time Prabhas starrer has been embroiled in accusations of intellectual property theft. Previously, Hollywood artist Sung Choi had also accused the filmmakers of using his artwork without permission. Although Choi’s social media posts on the matter have since been removed, their initial impact sparked widespread debate and scrutiny.
The filmmakers at Vyjayanthi Movies have yet to formally respond to these latest accusations, leaving the future of the film’s release and its reception uncertain amidst these contentious claims.
