Nitesh Tiwari, the National Award-Winning Filmmaker, is all set to bring the epic tale of Ramayana to the big screen with a star-studded cast. Ranbir Kapoor will play Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will play Sita, and Yash will play Raavan in the ambitious trilogy that is expected to release in the second half of 2025.
Ramayana first part to go on floors this month, release on Diwali 2025
According to Pinkvilla, the first part of the Ramayana Trilogy will go on floors this month in Mumbai and will be shot from March to July, before entering the post-production stage. The film is produced by Nitesh Tiwari with Namit Malhotra (DNEG), the Oscar Winning VFX company, who will also design the world of Ramayana with cutting-edge technology. A dedicated team of the best VFX artists will work exclusively on Ramayana for 500 days starting from July. “It’s the most technically advanced feature film of Indian Film,” a source told Pinkvilla.
If everything goes as planned, Ramayana will hit the big screen during the Diwali 2025 weekend, but being a VFX-heavy legacy film, the makers are being double-sure before committing to anytime lines of release.
Officially announcement of Ramayana on Ram Navami
The source also revealed that the official announcement for Ramayana will be made on April 17, 2024, on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. “There is no better date than Ram Navami to make an official announcement on the cast, crew, and release plans for Ramayana. It’s the most ambitious film of Indian Cinema and the team is making all the efforts to bring it to the spectacle in the most authentic manner. The team has spent over 5 years in pre-production to get the script and visuals in place, and it’s now the time to execute all that was planned,” the source said.
Prep for Ramayana is almost complete
The cast of Ramayana has undergone multiple look tests, pre-visualization and tech rehearsals in Mumbai and LA. Ranbir Kapoor had visited the VFX office of DNEG in LA for some pre-viz in January 2024, as per the source. Yash, who has an extended appearance in Ramayana: Part One, will join the team in July 2024, after wrapping up a major chunk of his next film, Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas. “Yash was bowled over by the visuals and the purity with which Nitesh intends to retell Ramayana to the audience today,” the source added.
The film will also feature Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, and Rakul Preet Singh as Shrupanakha. Ramayana is touted to be India’s most ambitious and technically advanced feature film and will be a treat for the fans of Indian Cinema.
