Nitin Desai, an accomplished artist who received the National Award for Best Art Direction four times, was discovered deceased at his N D Studio in Karjat. The police haven’t released further details about the reason for his death. He was found dead on a Wednesday morning, and initial reports suggest it could have been a suicide. However, more information about the cause of his passing is yet to be shared.

Nitin Desai, a highly acclaimed artist, achieved remarkable success by winning the National Award for Best Art Direction on four occasions. During his impressive two-decade career in Bollywood, he collaborated with renowned directors like Ashutosh Gowarikar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Among his notable works are celebrated films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Jodha Akbar, Lagaan, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, and Bajirao Mastani, among others. His last project as an art director was the 2019 film Panipat, working alongside Ashutosh Gowarikar. Nitin Desai’s outstanding contributions to the industry were recognized with honors from the prestigious Art Directors’ Guild Film Society and the American Cinematheque in Hollywood.

Grief: BJP General Secretary Mourns Nitin Desai’s Loss
Vinod Tawde, the BJP general secretary and a close friend of Nitin Desai, expressed his grief over the unfortunate news. He revealed that he used to have frequent conversations with Nitin, offering advice and support. Vinod even shared examples of how Amitabh Bachchan had faced significant setbacks but managed to bounce back in life. They encouraged Nitin, assuring him that even if the studio faced financial issues, he could start anew. The sudden demise of Nitin Desai deeply saddened Vinod, who had spoken to him just the day before.
In addition to his successful career as an art director, Nitin Desai ventured into film production in 2003 with the movie Desh Devi Maa Ashapura. He also gained popularity as a producer with the widely acclaimed Marathi serial Raja Shivchhatrapati. In 2005, Nitin established ND Studios in Karjat, located on the outskirts of Mumbai, covering an expansive 52-acre area. The studio became a prominent filming location for numerous movies, most notably the grand sets of Jodha Akbar. Apart from his production ventures, Nitin showcased his directorial skills in films like Hello Jai Hind ! (2011) and Ajintha (2012).
