After Maidaan, director Amit Sharma is gearing up for his next big project: a film about the Indian Armed Forces’ daring Operation Khukri. This operation, which took place in Sierra Leone in July 2000, was a high-stakes rescue mission during a United Nations peacekeeping effort.
The film will highlight the bravery and skill of the Indian soldiers involved, who faced a complex hostage situation with exceptional courage.
Director Amit Sharma To Helm A Film On Operation Khukri
Amit Sharma is thrilled to tackle this historical story. In a statement to Mid-Day, he said, “I am thrilled to be collaborating with Athena E&M and Chrome Pictures on this monumental film. Operation Khukri is a story that deserves to be told, and I am committed to doing justice to the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers.”
Sharma is aware of the challenges ahead. He said, “Recreating the magnitude of this mission, involving multiple branches of the Indian Armed Forces, will be a formidable task. Accurately portraying events in a foreign country adds another layer of complexity.”
To ensure the film’s authenticity, renowned screenwriter Girish Koli, known for his work on Kesari, is joining the team. Koli is excited about the project, commenting, “The sheer scale of Operation Khukri and the immense pride associated with the rescue mission makes it an incredibly compelling story to adapt for the screen.”
Sunir Kheterpal Teams Up With Chrome Pictures For This Large-Scale Project
The film has been in development for seven years, and was initially associated with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Sunir Kheterpal.
Sunir Kheterpal has now partnered with Chrome Pictures to bring the film back to life. The casting process for this large-scale project is still underway, and no final decisions have been made yet.
