The Hera Pheri 3 Story Continues to Spin
Paresh Rawal finally came out to say something publicly, confirming that his lawyers have engaged after Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films production firm sued him.
In a pointed tweet, Rawal wrote:
This public statement came out after Rawal was served with a legal notice last week following the shock exit he had from Hera Pheri 3 — a film where he has been the fan favourite since the inception of the franchise as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte.
A Breakdown of the Legal Dispute
According to a recent report, Paresh Rawal returned his signing amount of ₹11 lakhs with 15% annual interest, plus allowances, after his exit from the film. His full fees were alleged to be ₹15 crore.
Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films lawyers alleged that his exit affects schedules and have alleged a loss of considerable money, damaging the franchise.
Pooja Tidke, Joint Managing Partner at Parinam Law Associates, said:
“He had confirmed participation on social media and even filmed part of the trailer. Then he dropped out of nowhere. This impacts coordination, costs and audience expectations.”
Franchise Fallout: More Than Money At Stake
Fans of the Hera Pheri franchise were caught off guard by the news about Rawal’s departure, especially after a teaser with Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Rawal had already been filmed on the sets of Bhoot Bangla.
Sources indicate the shoot featured three-and-a-half minutes of bona fide footage, which was of greater significance to Cape of Good Films’ legal arguments concerning losses.
Tidke further explained that this was not simply a breach of contract; it was also a move that caused:

While Priyadarshan is still attached as director and Akshay and Suniel are still on the project, it is not yet clear who will replace Paresh Rawal as Baburao or if the character will simply be written out.
