It was recently reported that the satellite and digital rights of the horror comedy, Bhoot Police have been sold to Star Network for Rs. 60 crores. While digital rights fetched Rs. 45 crores, the satellite was sold for Rs. 15 crore plus.
And now, the figures are out for Priyadarshan comedy, Hungama 2, starring Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Meezaan Jaffrey and Pranita Subhash.
“The comic caper is sold to Disney+ Hotstar for Rs. 30 crores; however this does not include the satellite rights. While the exact figure for a TV premiere is not known yet, it is expected to be in the range of Rs. 6 to 8 crores, taking the total revenue to Rs. 36 crores,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
In additional, the makers have received revenue from music and ancillary sources too, taking the overall revenue to Rs. 45 crores mark. Since the budget of Hungama 2 is around 30 crores, this makes it a fairly profitable venture for producer Venus.
“The film is an ensemble of acclaimed actors, but none of them is a superstar and hence, Priyadarshan has been able to mount it on a big scale. The inside reports are fantastic with some calling it a laugh-a-thon,” the source further added.
This sequel to the superhit comedy Hungama, seems like a smart buy from Disney+Hotstar. “It’s a sure shot winner, a vintage Priyadarshan comedy wherein humour stems from the screenplay.” concludes the source.
