Fans of Priyanka Chopra’s spy thriller Citadel will have to wait much longer for its second season. Fresh reports reveal that the highly anticipated sequel has been delayed until 2026. It is also said that Amazon MGM has put all planned spin-offs on hold, adding uncertainty to the future of the global spy franchise.
Citadel Season 2 Faces Delays Due To Creative Issues
The second season of Citadel was originally expected to drop this year. However, a report from The Hollywood Reporter India suggests that Amazon MGM is unhappy with the current direction of the show.
Insiders claim the studio has decided to push the release to Spring 2026. Sources also reveal that the fate of the spin-offs remains unclear, with the studio pausing them “until the second season is released, if not indefinitely.”
Recap Of Citadel S1
The first season starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden as elite spies Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane. The duo lost their memories after the fall of their agency, Citadel, and had to rediscover their past while battling new threats.
The six-episode season premiered on April 28, 2023. It featured a star-studded cast, including Stanley Tucci, Lesley Manville, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Møller, and Rahul Kohli.
Despite its massive production budget, Citadel received mixed reviews. However, it garnered enough attention for Amazon MGM to greenlight a second season. David Weil returned as the writer, and the season wrapped filming in November 2023. Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO continued their role as executive producers.
Spin-Offs Put On Hold
Amazon MGM had ambitious plans to expand Citadel into a global franchise with multiple spin-offs set in different countries. The Italian adaptation Citadel: Diana premiered on October 10, 2024, with Matilda De Angelis in the lead role. Meanwhile, Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian spin-off starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, was directed by Raj & DK and released on November 7, 2024.
With Citadel Season 2 facing delays, Amazon MGM has also stalled its spin-off projects. Reports suggest that the studio will not move forward with any additional expansions until the second season is released.
Priyanka Chopra had previously announced her return as Nadia Sinh, sparking excitement among fans. However, with the delay stretching into 2026, the wait for the next chapter of Citadel could test audience patience. Amazon MGM is reportedly working on creative improvements before the show’s return, ensuring the spy thriller delivers a stronger impact in its next outing.
