The Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa has become one of the most successful film franchises in Indian cinema, with the first part, Pushpa: The Rise, breaking box office records and winning critical acclaim. The second part, Pushpa 2: The Rule, is slated to release on Independence Day, 2024, and has already generated a lot of buzz among the fans. But did you know that the director Sukumar had originally conceived Pushpa as a web series?
Pushpa was originally conceived as a web series
In a throwback video that has gone viral on social media, Sukumar revealed that he had initially planned to make Pushpa as a web series, as the story had a lot of characters and subplots. He said that he wanted to explore the world of red sandalwood smuggling, a rare wood that grows only in the Seshachalam Hills of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, and the rise of a coolie named Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, in the syndicate.
However, he later changed his mind and decided to make it into a film, to give the audience a never-before-seen experience on the big screen. He also said that he had to compress the story and make some changes to suit the film format. He added that he was happy with the outcome and thanked Allu Arjun for his dedication and performance.
Pushpa Part 3 Is Happening, Confirms Allu Arju
Allu Arjun, the star of the blockbuster film Pushpa: The Rise, has revealed that there will be a third part in the Pushpa franchise. The actor, who is currently attending the Berlin Film Festival, where Pushpa: The Rise had a special screening, said that he and director Sukumar have exciting ideas for the continuation of the story.
In an interview with Variety, Allu Arjun said, “You can definitely expect part three, we do want to make it a franchise and we have exciting ideas for the lineup”.
Pushpa 2 to have bigger canvas and bigger conflict
The makers of Pushpa have already announced that the second part, titled Pushpa: The Rule, will release on August 15, 2024. The film will reportedly have a bigger canvas and a more intense conflict between Pushpa and Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, the ruthless police officer played by Fahadh Faasil.
He added, “Pushpa 2 is going to have a very different shade of Pushpa than what you’ve seen in ‘Pushpa 1,’ because it is the lower end of the spectrum that you’ve seen. Till then it was playing on a regional scale, now it will play on a national and international scale. Pushpa 1, police officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, played by Fahadh Faasil, emerges as a thorn in Pushpa’s side. The conflict between them is going to escalate to a much bigger, bigger scale.”
Allu Arjun also said that Pushpa: The Rise gained more popularity after it started streaming on Prime Video. He said that many people watched the film multiple times on the OTT platform and that the film attracted viewers from different languages, regions, and neighboring countries.
Pushpa: The Rule is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and has music by Devi Sri Prasad. The film is expected to be one of the most awaited releases of 2024.
