Atlee Reworks Raka Action Schedule Amid Deepika Padukone’S Pregnancy, Body Double To Step In

Atlee is retooling one of Raka’s biggest action stretches, and the change says plenty about how central Deepika Padukone remains to the film. As the Allu Arjun-led spectacle pushes ahead, the filmmaker has opted for a body double to execute the physically demanding portions of Deepika’s action scenes during her pregnancy.

It is a practical production call on a film mounted at event scale, and one that keeps Deepika’s character firmly embedded in the narrative instead of pushing her to the sidelines.

Atlee Redesigns Raka’S Action Plan

Atlee has decided to use a body double for Deepika Padukone’s key action scenes in Raka. As per the source material, Deepika has already shot her close-up portions for these segments, and those visuals will later be blended with stunt footage using VFX.

The source report adds that Atlee reworked the schedule soon after learning about Deepika’s pregnancy, ensuring that the action-heavy portions could continue without affecting the broader production timeline. Her dramatic scenes remain designed around her participation, while the more physically intense stretches are being mounted with a double.

That adjustment is especially notable because Deepika’s character is not being scaled down. The report says her role includes a strong entry moment and a major action sequence with Allu Arjun, underlining that the change is about execution, not reducing her importance in the film. Work on King has also been moved along faster so that Deepika’s action and song portions there can be completed in a carefully managed window.

Why Raka Is Still A Major Event Film

Raka continues to shape up as one of the most closely watched star vehicles on the horizon. The film is directed by Atlee, stars Allu Arjun in the lead, and is backed by Sun Pictures. It is currently in the filming stage and is slated for release in 2027.

The project is being positioned as a full-scale commercial action entertainer, a space Atlee has repeatedly commanded with confidence and one that aligns perfectly with Allu Arjun’s pan-India reach. That makes every casting and scheduling decision around Raka part of a much bigger equation for a film designed to land as a theatrical event.

Deepika Padukone’S Event-Film Run Adds Weight To Raka

The latest update lands at a moment when Deepika’s screen presence carries the sheen of major-event cinema. In 2024 alone, she featured in Fighter, Kalki 2898 AD and Singham Again, following the blockbuster momentum of Pathaan and Jawan in 2023. That recent run has firmly placed her in the centre of big-ticket, star-driven storytelling, which is exactly why her role in Raka matters beyond a routine casting update.

Her upcoming slate extends that same trajectory. Deepika is attached to King, directed by Siddharth Anand and co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, with a theatrical release date locked for December 24, 2026, before Raka follows in 2027. In that context, Atlee’s decision to preserve her place in the film and redesign the action around her does not feel incidental. It reinforces how valuable her presence is to the scale, appeal and positioning of a modern tentpole.
