Ram Charan is one of the biggest stars in the Telugu film industry. His stardom catapulted to not just the nation but to the international level after the release of SS Rajamouli‘s RRR last year. Now, the actor is again creating buzz internationally. This time with his 2018 period action drama Rangasthalam which has been released in Japan where the film is doing well.
At the Japanese box office, Rangasthalam clashed with Yash’s super-successful Kannada films KGF Chapters 1 & 2. Surprisingly, Ram’s film is enjoying a better audience response in Japan. According to media reports, the Ram-Charan starrer has so far grossed one crore (in Indian currency) at the Japanese box office. The positive word of mouth is helping the film and it might end up surpassing both the KGF films.
Rangasthalam was released in Japan on 14 July and minted around 2.5 million yen from 70 screens on its opening day. The film had greatly in its advance booking as well. Looking at the numbers, it is expected that more screens will be allotted to the film in the coming weeks.
RRR Had Also Performed Well In Japan
Last year, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR’s RRR grossed over 100 crores in Japan alone. This might have triggered the makers of Rangasthalam to release the film in that country since there is a strong fan base for Ram in Japan. RRR, on the other hand, was a major critical and commercial success. It then went on to win a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. It was one of the most watched and talked about Indian films in the United States last year. On the other hand, Yash’s KGF 1 and 2 were also massive successes in India during their original theatrical run. They are also expected to do well in Japan.
