After Maharashtra Government releasing the GR about Unlock 6 without mentioning about the cinemas reopening date, its now being speculated amongst the trade and exhibitors that Ranveer Singh starrer 83 and Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi, which was suppose to release on Christmas and Republic Holiday of 2021 and was the sole reason cinemas were excited to keep the business in run.
Although now makers of both the films are trying to push ahead the releasing dates for around April-May 2021, either for Eid or Independence week. With this new development now it seems that most of cinemas all over the country would be now in dooming position forcing many cinemas to shut the doors forever as they wouldn’t be able to survive the loss for a year. As well as, it’s been said around 10 lacs employees would be laid down in coming weeks officially nationwide.
Akshay and Ranveer were bringing big budget massy films which was supposed to open the markets for cinemas and see if people would opt for the new normal situation. Now that the makers are trying to back off and wait for the release, the situation still can’t be understood around cinema halls.
The reason behind all these is that most of the cinemas of India were dependent on the Maharashtra State which is the one of the major source of revenue for the movie producers contributing 35% of the revenue share of each film business till date has been shut for almost 8 months. Now till the time Mahrashtra cinemas are not opened or start running again in the old ways, none of producers would be able to release their films pan India, forcing them to release on OTT platforms like Zee Plex, Amazon, Netflix, Hotstar etc.
Manoj Bajpaayee, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Diljit Dosanjh starrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, which was scheduled for a Diwali release Pan-India would now be clear to release the film directly on Zee plex like Khaali Peeli as major markets for the cinemas would be now closed.
Well, nothing except hopes of getting used to the new normal and earning through half empty theaters might possibly be the only solution till the pandemic stops. Although, let’s wish the situation like earlier comes soon so audience can enjoy watching films in cinema halls again.
