Ranveer Singh’s 83: Makers paid Kapil Dev 5 cr & the original winning team THIS amount to share their stories

Ranveer Singh’s upcoming sports biography 83 has been making news. One of the most eagerly anticipated releases has been Reliance Entertainment’s film, which depicts the narrative of the 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. Now, just a week before the film enters theatres, it is known by a portal on how the filmmakers acquired the story’s rights. According to a reputable source, Reliance Entertainment paid the winning team around Rs. 15 crore, with approximately Rs. 5 crore going to cricket star Kapil Dev himself.

Revealing details about the acquisition of the rights for 83, an industry insider told Bollywood Hungama, “Before making the film it is important to acquire the rights of the subject and the individual stories of the players the film is based on, especially when it revolves around real-life people of incidents. Keeping this in mind, Reliance Entertainment has paid the original winning team of the 1983 World Cup approximately Rs. 15 cr., while Kapil Dev, who led the team to victory walked away with the lion’s share of around Rs. 5 cr. for his go-ahead”.

While the film is set to hit theatres on December 24, reports claim that it was made on a budget of around Rs. 125 crore. The film is directed by Kabir Khan and stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, Deepika Padukone as Romi Bhatia, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, and Harrdy Sandhu, among others.
