Rashmika Mandanna Breaks Silence On Janhvi Kapoor Peddi Controversy, Says She Is Not Comfortable With Skin Show

Rashmika Mandanna has stepped into one of the most closely watched conversations around female representation in commercial cinema, and she did not mince words. As the debate around Janhvi Kapoor’s Peddi scenes continues to draw attention, Rashmika’s candid remarks on skin show, costumes, and personal boundaries have put actor comfort at the centre of the discussion.

Rashmika Speaks About Her Personal Boundaries

During the conversation, Rashmika said, “because there are some things which I’m not okay with. See, I know some characters sort of need, like, something like a bikini or something like that, but even in that, I’ll say that I’m not very comfortable with my whole, you know, like exposing skin show; I’m not that kind of person.”

She went on to explain that commercial films can often come with styling demands that do not always feel natural to the actor. In her words, “But again, when you do, like, commercial films, there’ll be these costumes that you’re not completely comfortable with. But at the same time, there are lines that I draw for myself. And more so, often the directors are okay with it, because those are the kind of people who I prefer working with.”

What She Said About Speaking Up On Set

Rashmika also opened up about how hard it can be to initiate such conversations. She said, “But also you need to make it, like, easier for the actors to sort of come and ask these questions, because even I find it hard.”

She added, “Sometimes I’m like, no, I don’t want to do this, but it takes a lot of, you know, conversations with producers… okay, I really want to say this, you think I can? And he’s like, yeah, of course, you should.”

That struggle to speak up is exactly what has made the wider Peddi conversation resonate so strongly.

Why Peddi Became Part Of The Debate

The discussion turned to Peddi because the film had already triggered criticism over the way Janhvi Kapoor’s character was presented on screen. The Ram Charan-led Telugu sports action drama, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, released in theatres on June 4, 2026, and later arrived on Netflix on July 9, 2026. The film also featured Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu.

Some scenes drew backlash from viewers who felt Janhvi Kapoor’s character had been objectified, making Rashmika’s comments on boundaries and actor agency central to the ongoing conversation around the film.
