Rohit Shetty Ventures Into Horror With Nushrratt Bharuccha
Rohit Shetty is known for explosive action dramas like Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, often incorporating comedic interludes and over-the-top heroics. However, the filmmaker is now entering another domain: horror.
According to insiders close to the production, Shetty is producing a supernatural thriller with Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead, reflecting a move towards a different style. This step marks a movement beyond the genres he is known for, entering a new cinematic landscape.
Why Horror? Why Now?
An industry insider informed us:
“Rohit Shetty has a precedent of being fascinated by stories that have raw emotional responses. Horror movies have that same kind of adrenaline infused intensity action does, just a different form of adrenaline. After watching Nushrratt in Chhorii, he was confident she could carry this story with the level of vulnerability and resilience this character needs.”
Nushrratt’s performance in Chhorii (2021) put her down as a serious contender in the space of horror, and with Shetty championing her, the bar has already been raised for this new project.
E Niwas To Direct
Shetty has tapped E Niwas to direct the film. E Niwas is a known gritty cinematic eye (Shool, My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves) and is anticipated to bring a raw groundedness to the supernatural story.
“E Niwas creates an unnerving sense of realism in his imagery. Rohit wanted that type of grounded horror – not because of jump scares but entirely a terrifying atmosphere,” claims the source.
In pre-production, the film is expected to revolve around a woman embroiled in an unsettling mystery centred around an old secret. We are still working on the draft revision, as well as casting, but if everything works out and schedules allow, we expect to film later this year.

Rohit Shetty is embarking on and expanding the Cop Universe yet again with Singham Again, led by Ajay Devgn. His foray into horror offers a clear indication that he has a vision — one that is expansive and not afraid to take chances.
