Maharashtra’s movie halls will finally open for film screenings on October 22. The much-anticipated Rohit Shetty cop universe finally expands with Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar and set for a Diwali 2021 release. However, there is clearly a lot of excitement in the exhibition industry, as more and more movie theatres are preparing to reopen in November for the big-ticket entertainer.
While Akshay’s latest film, Bell Bottom, only had roughly 1600 screens in India, Sooryavanshi will have more than double that number. While Maharashtra alone will have 1100 operational screens (575 multiplex and 550 single screens) by November 5, cinema halls in the rest of India, which were closed in August due to a lack of new releases, are optimistic about a comeback in November. At least 850 to 900 of the 1100 will show Sooryavanshi in the state. Overall, extremely rough and early estimates imply that the action-packed movie would be released on around 3200 screens in India. The film will be released on the day after Diwali, and it is expected to have a strong start at the box office, with Maharashtra and Gujarat running at full capacity.
The day after Diwali is the busiest for the Indian film industry, and the Rohit Shetty comedy will get off to a flying start at the box office, signalling the return of the audience to the big screen.
