Salman Khan once planned to play Indian spy Ravindra Kaushik in a powerful biopic. But the project is now off the table.
Director Raj Kumar Gupta, who is known for Raid and the upcoming Raid 2, confirmed in a PTI interview that he spoke to Salman about the film. He wanted to bring Ravindra Kaushik’s story (also known as Black Tiger) to the big screen.
Here’s Why This Biopic Project With Salman Khan Got Shelved
Revealing the reason, Gupta explained, “The rights were there with me, but then the rights expired, and I didn’t renew them, so we didn’t do that.”
Back in 2021, reports claimed Salman had agreed to take on the role. A source told Pinkvilla, “It’s a film based on the life of Indian spy Ravindra Kaushik. He is famously known as Black Tiger and is regarded as India’s best spy ever. Raj Kumar Gupta has been researching his life for the last 5 years, and he has finally managed to lock a screenplay that does justice to the achievements and legacy of Ravindra Kaushik.”
The source also added, “He narrated this to Salman, who has already agreed in principle to do the film. It’s among the most heroic and shocking stories from Indian Intelligence history.”
Fans were excited to see Salman as the legendary spy, but since the rights were not renewed, the film has been shelved. Gupta hasn’t shared if he plans to restart the project with someone else in the future.
Raj Kumar Gupta And Salman’s Current Work Front
Right now, Raj Kumar Gupta is focused on promoting Raid 2. Ajay Devgn returns as IRS officer Amay Patnaik. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Pathak, and Amit Sial. It will release in cinemas on 1 May 2025.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan was last seen in Sikandar with Rashmika Mandanna. He’s now preparing to team up with Sanjay Dutt for a film titled Ganga Ram.
