Salman Khan Underwent One Of His Toughest Fitness Regimens Yet For Maatrubhumi

Salman Khan is preparing to return to the screen with a noticeably altered physicality in Maatrubhumi, and this was not a cosmetic change built inside a vanity gym. The actor pushed through one of the most punishing training stretches of his recent career while shooting in Ladakh, where thin air, punishing terrain and physical fatigue turned daily preparation into a test of stamina. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the transformation was shaped through endurance drills, heavy weight work and a calisthenics-heavy routine designed around extreme outdoor conditions.

How Ladakh Turned Salman Khan’s Training Into A Survival Test

According to a source close to the film, Salman followed a demanding 45 day training cycle during the Ladakh schedule, where conventional comfort gave way to survival-style discipline. “Salman Khan has undergone a remarkable physical transformation for the film. He has been training at extreme high altitudes in Ladakh, combining intense endurance drills with heavy weight sessions. It is easily one of the most grueling fitness regimens he has taken on in recent years, reflecting a completely new level of commitment to the role,” the source said.

With a full gym setup impossible to transport across such high-altitude terrain, his programme shifted to calisthenics and bodyweight training to maintain the required physique during the schedule. “During a 45-day schedule in Ladakh, the superstar adopted a calisthenics-based fitness routine to maintain his physique, as it was difficult to carry a full gym setup at such high-altitude shooting locations,” the source added.

The source also underlined the physical toll behind the process, saying Salman continued with the routine despite dealing with multiple injuries. “To train with such intensity, discipline, and passion under those conditions, honestly, it’s something only Salman Khan can pull off.”

Maatrubhumi Has Moved Beyond Its Earlier War Film Identity

That intense physical reset also aligns with a film that has changed shape creatively. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner, Maatrubhumi stars Salman as Indian Army Colonel B. Santosh Babu, with Chitrangda Singh in a key role. Earlier material had tied the project more directly to the Galwan Valley clash, but the film has since been retitled and reworked. References to China and Galwan have been removed, and the narrative is now being shaped as a war drama rooted in courage, sacrifice, resilience, love and family, giving it a broader emotional canvas than its original framing.

Salman Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

In career terms, Maatrubhumi occupies a distinct space in Salman’s current lineup. Tiger 3 in 2023 leaned on his established action franchise image, while Sikandar in 2025 arrived as a star-led commercial outing built around scale and mass appeal. Maatrubhumi places him inside a military drama anchored in national duty and emotional stakes, giving the project a different weight from those releases. His 2026 film with Dilraju productions adds another large-format title to his slate, but Maatrubhumi stands apart as the project most tied to realism, discipline and a historically rooted character arc.
