Salman Khan’s Name REMOVED From Petition Seeking CBI Probe Into Alleged Custodial Death; High Court Orders Investigation

Salman Khan's name has been removed from a petition for a CBI probe into the alleged custodial death of Anuj Thapan by the Bombay High Court. The court cited no allegations against Khan and directed focus on the main issue - Thapan's death.

Salman Khan’s name has been removed from a petition seeking a CBI probe into the alleged custodial death of Anuj Thapan, following an order by the Bombay High Court. Anuj, who was accused of supplying weapons in the case involving firing outside Salman Khan’s house, was found dead in a police lock-up toilet on May 1.

His mother, Rita Devi, filed a petition in the High Court on May 3, alleging foul play and demanding a CBI investigation into her son’s death. Initially, she included Salman Khan as a respondent in the plea.

High Court Removes Salman Khan’s Name From Petition, Orders Investigation

According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, the court’s decision to exclude Salman Khan’s name from the petition came after a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Shyam Chandak directed Ms Devi to remove the actor’s name.

The court reasoned that the petition did not seek any relief from Mr Khan, and there were no allegations against him. “He is not a necessary party,” the court remarked, emphasising that Ms Devi’s main concern was her son’s death and that the investigation would proceed accordingly.

During the hearing, Ms Devi’s lawyer argued that while no relief was sought from Salman Khan, he should still be part of the ongoing CID probe. However, the court responded by asserting that the decision of whom to include in the investigation rests with the CID. They advised the petitioner’s lawyer to focus on the core issue – her son’s death – and to avoid unnecessary digressions.

About The Case & It’s Current Status

The case dates back to April 14 when two shooters opened fire outside Salman Khan’s residence, leading to their subsequent arrest. Thapan was later arrested in Punjab on April 26, accused of supplying weapons to the shooters. His death in custody on May 1 sparked controversy, with his mother alleging police brutality.

As of now, the court has directed the magistrate to issue a fresh summons to Ms Devi to record her statement. The CID investigation into Thapan’s death is ongoing, with further updates expected in due course.
