Sunny Deol has been riding high on the success of Gadar 2. Wasting no time, the veteran actor has jumped into several other projects, with his next big project being with Telugu director Gopichand Malineni.
The film, tentatively titled SDGM, began shooting on June 22 in Hyderabad. Production designer Avinash Kolla created a village set for Deol’s grand introduction sequence.
Malineni, known for his hit films Krack (2021) and Veera Simha Reddy (2023), is making his Hindi film debut with SDGM. He has crafted an action-packed entertainer that promises to showcase Deol in a brand-new light. “I’ll present him in a never-before-seen action avatar. After Gadar 2 was released, I narrated the story to Sunny sir. He said yes immediately, adding that he was looking for this kind of role,” Malineni shared with Mid-day.
The director is confident that this film will highlight a different side of Deol, even though the actor is already celebrated for his action roles. “Sunny sir doesn’t play a man in uniform. While it is the story of a common man who takes on the system to fight for what is right, it is an unusual concept. The story is inspired by various real-life incidents, which people will understand when they watch the movie,” said Malineni.
SDGM will be dubbed in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil, expanding its reach across India. Malineni, who has a strong reputation for directing high-octane action movies, is determined to raise the bar with this project. “There are strong action set-pieces in this movie. That’s why we have signed three action directors. Most of the stunts are raw and real,” he explained.
The film boasts a talented team of action choreographers, including Anal Arasu, Ram-Lakshman, and Naga Venkat Naga, ensuring the action sequences will be top-notch. Alongside Deol, the movie features Saiyami Kher and Regina Cassandra, who will also appear in powerful roles. “They are all shooting right now in Hyderabad. It is a start-to-finish schedule as we want to wrap it up by the year-end. We’ll shoot in Hyderabad, Mangalore, and other cities across India,” Malineni added.
Adding to the excitement, the director hinted at a prominent South Indian actor playing the antagonist, with the identity to be revealed later.
