The long-standing legal feud between Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar has finally come to an end, but not without controversy. While many believed the settlement was mutual, Shabana Azmi has now revealed the details.
For the unversed, Kangana had earlier accused Akhtar of intimidation following a conversation they had about her alleged relationship with Hrithik Roshan.
In response, Akhtar filed a defamation suit, which has been in court for over four years. The case took a major turn when Kangana submitted an unconditional apology, officially closing the matter.
Shabana Azmi’s Reaction To The Incident
Javed Akhtar’s wife, actress Shabana Azmi, has made it clear that this was not a mutual settlement. Speaking to journalist Subhash K Jha, she expressed her confusion over the media’s portrayal of the resolution.
The actress shared, “They had asked for no monetary compensation but for her apology in writing. The victory is his and his lawyer Jay Bhardwaj’s. But I’m mystified why the press made it seem as though it was a mutual settlement but did not mention that it was the apology in writing which he was seeking and why he had fought the case for four and a half years.”
Javed Akhtar Also Responded To The Case
Earlier, Javed Akhtar addressed the matter after receiving Kangana’s apology. Speaking to the same journalist, he shared, “She has given a letter of regret and apologies. Unconditionally withdrawn all her words. And given statements making a commitment that she will never repeat them again. Apologies for all the inconveniences caused to me. This is what I wanted, and this is what I got.”
A copy of Kangana’s official apology was shared by Bollywood Hungama and confirms that she has taken back all her previous allegations. Her letter of regret signals the conclusion of a case that had been a major point of discussion in Bollywood’s legal battles.
However, the aftermath remains a topic of debate, with Shabana Azmi’s remarks highlighting how the media has shaped the narrative around the settlement.
