Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are set to make Bollywood history with a bronze statue in London. The statue will show their iconic pose from the 1995 classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).

It will stand in Leicester Square and will be the first-ever tribute to Indian cinema on the city’s famous movie trail, Scenes in the Square

The team plans to unveil it in spring this year. This statue will sit outside the Odeon cinema on the eastern terrace. That’s the same spot where Raj and Simran walk past each other in the film, unaware their love story is about to begin. The pose has become one of the most memorable moments in Bollywood history. This year also marks 30 years since the film’s release.

With this move, SRK and Kajol will join global film legends like Harry Potter, Mr. Bean, Mary Poppins, and Batman. Bollywood will officially take its place among the world’s most-loved movie icons.

The Heart of London Business Alliance shared the update on Wednesday. Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive, said, “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to add to our trail Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who are such titans of international cinema. The statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and a celebration of London’s rich diversity.”

The tribute will also kick off the 30-year anniversary celebrations for DDLJ. Aditya Chopra made his directorial debut with the film, which tells the story of two non-resident Indians—Raj and Simran—as they fall in love during a trip across Europe and India. Their journey starts on a train at King’s Cross Station.

What YRF Said In Their Official Statement

Leicester Square plays an important part in the movie. Raj stands in front of the Vue cinema, while Simran walks past the Odeon. Other London locations in the film include Hyde Park, Tower Bridge, and Horseguards Avenue.

Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, called it a big honour. He said, “We’re thrilled to be the first Indian film to be represented in Scenes in the Square.” He added, “It also marks 30 years of DDLJ, a film that has spread love and joy globally and shows the cultural impact it has had in the UK.”

Fans of the film have even more to look forward to. A musical version titled Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical will premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29.
