Tamil director Atlee just dropped a massive update about his next project. It’s a big-budget sci-fi film starring Allu Arjun. But instead of excitement, the announcement has sparked controversy.
On April 8, the makers released an announcement video, which showed Atlee and Allu Arjun meeting top VFX artists from Hollywood. These experts worked on hits like Avatar and Avengers: Endgame. They praised the script and called Atlee’s vision ambitious.
The video got over six million views. To celebrate, the team shared a poster. That’s when things went south.

The new poster looked a lot like Dune (2021) and eagle-eyed fans noticed it instantly. From the colours to the framing, many felt it copied Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi hit.

Social media users didn’t hold back and trolled it brutally. One user posted, “my brother it hasn’t even begun and you’ve lifted Dune poster?” Another said, “Vision 0 hai par copy karne mai sabse pehle..” Some called it a rip-off and questioned the film’s sci-fi tag.
This isn’t a first for Atlee. Even though he gave hits like Jawan, Mersal, and Theri, many people still call him out for copying plots and mixing ideas from other films.
The label ‘Khichdi director’ continues to follow him. So when he claimed this new film would make India proud, people expected something fresh. Now, the copied poster has raised more doubts.
Will The Filmmaker Prove Trolls Wrong?
The film, tentatively titled AA22xA6, brings together two big names. Allu Arjun, riding high on his Pushpa fame and National Award win, teams up with Atlee, who delivered the blockbuster Jawan. Fans hoped this combo would deliver a grand, original story. But the poster backlash has made some fans lose confidence.
That said, the buzz isn’t all bad. Online trolling can also build curiosity. The more people talk, the more attention the film gets. But with this early stumble, Atlee faces more pressure than ever and can’t play it safe anymore.
People want fresh storytelling, original visuals, and a strong script. Big VFX alone won’t cut it. If the film sticks to remixing ideas, it could end up as a case of overhype and under-delivery.
For the unversed, this sci-fi film is also expected to feature Allu Arjun in a double role.
