Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Opts for Bold & Unconventional Release Plan
Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is just two days away from its anticipated theatrical release, and the excitement couldn’t be higher. However, rather than follow the traditional methods of blockbuster hype, premium pricing and maximum marketability, Aamir has again astonished the industry — this time with an unconventional release plan meant to cover as much market reach as possible while focusing on affordability and exclusivity.
No Shows Before 9 AM, No Price Gouging – The Aamir Khan Way
According to an exclusive report, exhibitors across India have now received the screening parameters for Sitaare Zameen Par after its censor certification.
The first major highlight: the film is not allowed to have any shows before 9:00 AM, breaking from the early-morning launch tradition most big-budget films chase.
Additionally, unlike most A-list Bollywood blockbusters who apply “blockbuster pricing” to their films, Sitaare Zameen Par will resort to affordable popular weekend pricing. It will avoid the higher pricing slabs that often deter family audiences.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Aamir has forbid his film from being able to reach blockbuster pricing because it would be unaffordable for a large audience base,” a source quoted.
Restrictive Show Allocation Across Cinema Formats
The most shocking part of the strategy is the distribution requirement. The film will be released widely but with strict screening conditions:
-
Single screens must play Sitaare Zameen Par exclusively — no show-sharing.
-
2-screen cinemas are required to play at least 8 shows a day.
-
Multiplexes with 3 to 6 screens must play 11, 14, 16, and 19 shows per day respectively.
-
Multiplexes with 7 screens must play 22 shows.
-
8 screens = 25 shows/day.
-
9 screens = 28 shows/day.
-
10+ screens = 31 shows/day.
This ensures that Sitaare Zameen Par monopolises cinema repertoires upon release, with exclusive and plentiful exposure — especially during its critical opening weekend.
Advance Ticket Booking Starts Strong
After official clearance from the CBFC, following back-and-forth discussions over 2 cuts, advance ticket bookings started on June 17 and have already made solid progress.
By June 19, the final screen count will be established, but earlier indications suggest a wide national release of 3000–3500+ screens, despite the restrictive requirements.
Aamir Khan Is Banking On Cinema Culture Rather Than Streaming
In perhaps another bold step in the Aamir Khan revolution, he refused to sell the film to OTT platforms before its theatrical release. This was to ensure audiences return to theatres for the complete cinematic experience — especially in an era where films are often pre-sold to OTT to hedge box office risk.
This decision breaks the status quo and highlights Aamir’s desire to renew the theatrical experience and shift business paradigms.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict
Most high-budget films today aim to inflate opening weekend numbers via premium pricing and late-night or pre-dawn showtimes.
In contrast, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par is focused on affordability, pre-planned showtimes, and exclusive theatrical engagement.
-
The downside: likely lower opening-day spike.
-
The upside: strong word-of-mouth growth and national engagement — a strategy that Taare Zameen Par successfully used years ago.
With a focused but widespread release plan and a deeply emotional theme, Sitaare Zameen Par might just redefine what post-pandemic Bollywood success looks like.
