The Maharashtra government declared on Saturday that movie theatres will open in the state on October 22. The decision was made after several discussions with filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who demanded that the CM reopen the theatres in order to restart the cinema business. Rohit launched his grandiose cop universe film, Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar, for a Diwali release shortly after the reopening news. It’s been pouring announcements in Bollywood since then.

Aditya Chopra announced the YRF Films release schedule on Sunday morning, which includes Bunty Aur Babli 2 (November 19), Prithviraj (January 21), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (February 25), and Shamshera (March 18). Before the end of current fiscal year, the producer completed his slate of ready films and is gearing up for phase two of his releases in the following fiscal year. Four Sajid Nadiadwala projects – Tadap (December 3), 83 (December 24), Bachchan Pandey (March 4) and Heropanti 2 (April 29)– followed the announcement of four Yash Raj Films projects. He has two additional projects in the works: Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali, a comedy drama starring Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde, and an untitled love drama starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani.

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, which was supposed to be released around Christmas 2021, will now be released on February 14, Valentine’s Day weekend. After the 2012 cop drama Talaash, this would be Khan’s first non-holiday release. After the massive success of Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor returns to the big screen with Jersey over the New Year weekend on December 31. Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, on the other hand, are preparing for the release of Anees Bazmee’s horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 on March 25.

Aside from Bollywood, Akshay Kumar has his own independent business. The Khiladi revealed that his adventure Ram Setu will be released on the auspicious date of Diwali next year, following Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, and Bachchan Pandey. MayDay, directed by Ajay Devgn and starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh, has been blocked for the Eid 2022 schedule. KGF 2 is on track to hit theatres on April 14th, as promised.
