The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has honoured the late actress Sridevi by naming a junction in the Lokhandwala Complex after her. This gesture serves as a timeless tribute to her remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.
Sridevi’s sudden demise on February 24, 2018, left the film fraternity and her admirers in profound grief. However, her legacy endures in the hearts of her fans, immortalised through various tributes.
Junction At Lokhandwala Complex Named As Sridevi Kapoor Chowk
The junction, now named Sridevi Kapoor Chowk, holds significant sentimental value as it stands in proximity to the Green Acres tower where Sridevi resided. It was also the route taken by her funeral procession. The decision to name the intersection after her came as a result of requests from both municipal authorities and local residents. This reflects the deep respect and affection the community holds for the late actress.
While Sridevi’s legacy is being honoured through this recognition, there have been speculations about a potential biopic depicting her life. However, her husband, Boney Kapoor, has voiced reservations about such a project.
In an interview with DNA, he asserted, “She was a very private person. Her life should remain private.” Firmly opposing the idea, he stated, “I don’t think there ever will be. Till the time I live, I will not allow this to happen.”
Sridevi’s Desire To Collaborate With Chamkila
Beyond her illustrious film career, Sridevi had a profound impact on the silver screen. She was an admirer of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
According to Sawarn Sivia, a close friend of Chamkila, Sridevi expressed a keen interest in collaborating with him on a movie after watching a film about the musician and falling in love with his music. However, this envisioned collaboration never materialised.
Sridevi’s Tragic Demise
The legendary Bollywood actress sadly died in Dubai from a heart attack. On that tragic evening, her husband, Boney Kapoor, flew there to surprise her. He urged her to join him for dinner after a short chat. When she didn’t respond for fifteen minutes, he became concerned and found her lifeless in a bathtub filled with water.
Despite attempts to revive her, she couldn’t be saved. Later, it was revealed that she accidentally drowned. Her body was then brought back to Mumbai for her last rites.
