Sriram Raghavan is one of the most acclaimed and interesting directors in Bollywood today. With films like Ek Haseena Thi, Johny Gaddar, Badlapur, and Andhadhun in his kitty, he has proven his mantle as a masterful storyteller. After nearly five years, he has returned to the director’s chair with the upcoming and highly anticipated film Merry Christmas.
Ever since its announcement, Merry Christmas has been generating a lot of buzz on the internet. Partly because of the unusual pair of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. In a recent interview, Sriram unveiled why he cast the two in his film who are so poles apart from each other in every way.
He said, “When you see the film, you’ll know. The story is such that I just needed a very off-beat pairing or casting and I was trying various combinations and permutations and I happened to meet Vijay at a festival in Melbourne and I’d seen some of his films. I just felt, ‘What if I do this odd combination’ and it has got its curiosity value, I hope.”
The film Has Been Shot Simultaneously In Tamil
Recently, the makers of the film released two interesting posters. One of them was in Tamil since the film has been also shot in Tamil language. Revealing the reason behind it, the director said: “I wanted to make a Tamil film also since Vijay is a very acclaimed actor in the South and I thought it will be just good for us to make two versions of this film. They are broadly the same, 95 percent they are the same but of course, language changes and some characters also I wanted to change so that it doesn’t look like a dubbed film.”
Merry Christmas To Clash With Yodha
Merry Christmas is slated to release in the theatres on 15 December. Interestingly, Karan Johar’s production venture, the action flick Yodha is also releasing the same day. Yodha stars Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna, and Disha Patani and is directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha. While both films are very different from each other, they might eat into each other’s audiences at the ticket window. Karan is reportedly unhappy with the clash of the film and has stated that the makers could have at least informed him before the decision was made.
