Sunny Deol is lining up his next big-screen outing soon after the strong box office run of Border 2. The actor’s upcoming film Gabru has now got a confirmed theatrical release date, with the makers finalising the rollout plan for a nationwide release.
The film positions Deol in an emotionally driven, rooted story that is being mounted as a theatrical experience, with music led by a well-known Bollywood hitmaker and a supporting cast that includes Simran and Prit Kamani.
Gabru Release Date Confirmed For May 8
Gabru will release in theatres on May 8, as per a press note shared by the team. The film is directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Vishal Rana and Om Chhangani. PVR INOX Pictures is set to handle the film’s nationwide distribution.
The story features Sunny Deol as a middle-aged family man who, following unforeseen circumstances, rediscovers life and learns to embrace it fully. The project also stars Simran and Prit Kamani in key roles.
Deol, speaking about the film in an interview with ANI, called Gabru “one of the closest films to his heart.” The same note describes the film’s thematic core as “themes of courage, identity, and resilience,” aligning with the kind of grounded emotional arcs the actor has periodically returned to alongside his larger-scale action entertainers.
On the music front, Gabru has compositions by Mithoon, with lyrics credited to Sayeed Quadri, Satinder Sartaj and Anurag Saikya.
The release date announcement comes at a time when Deol remains in the spotlight following Border 2, which the same report states has crossed Rs 322 crore net in India and approximately Rs 440 crore gross worldwide in 25 days.

Shashank Udapurkar directs Gabru, with Vishal Rana and Om Chhangani producing the film. Sunny Deol leads the cast, alongside Simran and Prit Kamani. Deol’s latest release is Border 2 (2026) which grossed more than ₹ 425 crore. He is also set to star in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 (2026), which is slated for an Independence Day weekend theatrical release. Further ahead, Deol will play Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, scheduled to release on Diwali 2026.
