Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, the popular sibling duo of Bollywood, graced the couch of Koffee with Karan 8, hosted by Karan Johar. The brothers opened up about their personal and professional lives, sharing some candid and compelling stories.
Sunny Deol shares his struggle after the success of Gadar
One of the highlights of the show was when Sunny Deol talked about his blockbuster film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which released in 2001 and became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Sunny said that he faced a lot of difficulties after the success of the film, as he was not getting scripts he wanted and being advised a lot from entourage of people.

Talking about the same, Sunny Deol said, “After ‘Gadar’ was released, it became a phenomenal hit. My struggle started after that. Before that, I didn’t know that it would be so difficult. I was doing films left, right, and centre. But things started becoming more difficult after that. Struggling in a way means I could not work with directors I wanted; I was not getting scripts that I wanted. That time everybody was saying, No, you shouldn’t work with senior directors; you should work with younger directors. Everyone was advising because, initially, we were ourselves who would take decisions. Now there is such a big entourage of people who are trying to tell you, Yeh nahi karna, woh karna. This is good for you, and that is bad for you.”
Sunny also commented on the trend of inflating box office numbers, which he said was prevalent in the industry. After getting questioned by Karan Johar on his claim of ‘organic collections’ of Gadar 2, he said, “That does happen. That’s the way society is moving right now.”
Bobby Deol on his equation with Salman Khan during his low phase
Bobby Deol, on the other hand, shared his experience of going through a low phase in his career, when he did not have any work and felt depressed. He said that he was inspired by Salman Khan, who helped him bounce back with films like ‘Race 3’ and ‘Housefull 4’.

Deol brothers on Dharmendra’s kiss in RRKPK
Bobby also talked about his father Dharmendra’s playful kiss in Karan Johar’s film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, which he said was very cute and funny. He said that he loved the film and praised Karan for his direction.
He said, “Your film Rocky Aur Rani, I loved the film. Humlog mazaak karte rehte hai ki papa kiss-wiss bhi kar rahe the lekin sab log bolte hai he is so cute.”
The episode was full of fun and laughter, as Karan Johar asked the brothers some rapid-fire questions and played some games with them. The fans of the Deols were delighted to see them together on the show after 17 years.
The show airs every Thursday on Disney+ Hotstar. Sunny Deol’s last release ‘Gadar 2‘ was a huge box office success, while Bobby Deol will next be seen in ‘Animal‘ alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.
Gadar 2, which released in August 2023, is a sequel to the 2001 hit film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel.
