Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani starring Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has surpassed the lifetime viewership of Salaar, the Telugu action featuring Prabhas, on Netflix in just four days.
Dunki is a comedy-drama film that marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, who is known for his blockbuster films like Munna Bhai series, PK, 3 Idiots and Sanju. The film also stars Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu in pivotal roles. The film is co-written by Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.
Dunki registers record breaking views on Netflix
According to Netflix, Dunki registered a whopping 4.9 million viewership in its first weekend, from February 15th to February 18th, with 13 million viewing hours. This makes it one of the biggest viewerships for the first week in Bollywood and Indian cinema history. The film also trended at number one in India and number five globally among non-English films on the streaming platform.
Salaar’s viewership on Netflix
In comparison, Salaar, which was released on February 8th, had only 1.6 million views in its first week, with 4.8 million viewing hours. The film, which was expected to be a massive hit, failed to impress the critics and the audience alike, and received mixed reviews for its story, direction, and performances.
SRK’s Dunki Ruling Charts On Netflix In 64 Countries
Dunki, on the other hand, received rave reviews from both critics and fans, who praised the film’s plot, direction, music, and the chemistry between the lead pair. Dunki narrates the extraordinary journey of four desperate immigrants who take the so-called “donkey route” to enter London illegally. Their unconventional and often hilarious escapades form the crux of this heartwarming tale. Led by Shah Rukh Khan himself, the stellar cast brings authenticity and charm to their characters.

Shah Rukh’s Dunki received massive reception on Netflix, it’s trending on top in 13 countries and Netflix’s Top 10 charts across more than 64 countries. This is despite after 50 days of release in cinemas.
Dunki’s Box Office Triumph
Dunki had already made waves at the box office, grossing nearly ₹ 475 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. Film became highest non action film post pandemic in India too with 230 crore nett. Now, its digital success on Netflix adds another feather to Shah Rukh Khan’s illustrious cap.
Dunki continues to dominate the Netflix charts this week, and is expected to witness a further surge in viewership in its second week.
