Did Tamannaah Bhatia Just Back Deepika Padukone In The Vanga Row? Here’s The Truth About That Viral ‘Like’
While the Spirit controversy between Deepika Padukone and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga continues to unfold, netizens were recently hit with another round of speculation — this time they were concerned with actress Tamannaah Bhatia. A ‘like’ on an impactful video clip of Deepika Padukone suddenly became fodder for the social media tractors. Did Tamannaah really show her support? The Stree 2 star has now come forward to clarify the situation.
Tamannaah Bhatia Breaks Silence: “Instagram, Please Explain!”
On May 28, Tamannaah Bhatia put out a cheeky and candid response on her Instagram stories after a number of online portals ran news stories that she liked a video of Deepika Padukone.
Tamannaah’s post explained:
“Can Instagram pls explain how it likes posts and pages on its own 😂😂😂 cause random people are making this news and I have actual work to do.”
In her post, the actress made it clear she had not liked the post at all and put an end to assumptions she was picking sides in the brewing storm between Deepika and Vanga.
The Video in Review: An Intense Flashback
The now-viral video includes Deepika’s response at a press event for Chhapaak back in 2020, where she swiftly dismissed a gendered question from a journalist who asked if her husband, Ranveer Singh, funded her film.
Showing strength and poise, she stated:
“Excuse me, yeh mere khud ke paise hain. Kisne bola yeh? (These are my own funds. Who told you otherwise?)”
What ultimately looked like a simple video with a caption tracking “propaganda she’s not falling for”, including misogyny and the gender pay gap, seemed to be an indirect jab at Spirit‘s ongoing casting debacle.
What Was The Situation With Deepika & Vanga?
The confrontation occurred after Deepika Padukone allegedly pulled out of Spirit due to disagreements regarding the shooting schedule and a demand for restructuring of fees. According to a report, the actress wanted to be paid on a daily basis for any shoot days exceeding the initial agreed-upon commitment of 100 days.
Sources suggested that Padukone’s agency had pushed for a modification of the contractual terms, which resulted in a creative dispute that resulted in her departure. The departure was also conspicuous; as the same day the industry learnt of Padukone’s departure, the studio announced that Animal breakout star Triptii Dimri would be taking her place.
The Bigger Picture: Is social media adding fuel to the fire?
While Tamannaah’s clarification has seemingly put the fire out (on her side at least), the episode serves as a quandary of how even an inadvertent ‘like’ can be misinterpreted and become a perceived industry statement.
Social media users wasted no time in interpreting her like as unvoiced solidarity in light of Deepika receiving a wave of online support after Vanga’s vague barb went viral. But as Bhatia rightly stated, “Random people are making this news” — sometimes, it’s not that profound.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict:
In this hyper-connected world, sometimes all it takes is a flick of the thumb to start headlines. Tamannaah Bhatia‘s clarification not only quenches a growing misinterpretation but also adds a little perspective into how fast people’s minds can run with a narrative. Whilst Spirit prepares to light up with a fresh lead in Triptii Dimri, and netizens continue to scrutinise every angle, it’s obvious Bollywood‘s private drama is giving their movies a run for their money.
