The eagerly awaited releases of Thangalaan and Kanguva, starring Vikram and Suriya, respectively, have encountered a significant setback. The Madras High Court has issued a directive requiring the films’ production company, Studio Green, to deposit Rs 1 crore before each film’s release.
According to reports from Live Law, this legal complication is tied to an ongoing case involving the late realtor and financier Arjunlal Sunderdas. The High Court had appointed an official assignee to manage Sunderdas’ estate after he was declared insolvent.
The assignee filed an execution petition against Studio Green, claiming unresolved financial disputes arising from a film production agreement the company had previously entered into with Sunderdas.
Madras HC Orders Studio Green To Deposit 1 Cr Each Before Kanguva & Thangalaan Release
Studio Green argued that they had come to an agreement with Sunderdas to settle the financial obligations by transferring the Hindi remake rights of three of their films.
However, the court rejected this claim, noting that there was no concrete evidence to support the existence of such an agreement.
In its ruling, the Madras High Court found that Studio Green had not complied with a prior order to pay a significant sum to the official assignee. As a result, the court has now directed the production company to deposit Rs 1 crore before the release of both Thangalaan and Kanguva. This step is intended to ensure the recovery of the outstanding dues.

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Thangalaan features Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role. The film is set for a global release on August 15, 2024, and will be available in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The music for the film is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.

Talking about Kanguva, the film has been generating buzz with its recently released trailer, which coincided with director Siva’s birthday. The trailer teases a gripping revenge drama featuring Suriya and Bobby Deol in prominent roles. The film is slated for release on October 9.
