Karan Johar and Rani Mukerji are in Australia to celebrate Indian cinema. They are marking 15 years of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), one of the biggest Indian film festivals outside of India.

At the Australian Parliament, they launched a special stamp to honour legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra.

While in Canberra, Johar and Mukerji met Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who was excited to take a selfie with them.

He later shared the photo on Instagram and wrote, “Rani Mukerji and @karanjohar are in Canberra promoting the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It’s one of the largest Indian film festivals outside of India, and it’s been running for 15 years. A testament to Australia’s relationship with India and the vibrancy of the Indian-Australian community.”

For the event, Johar wore a sharp suit, and Rani Mukerji looked beautiful in a white and gold saree, adding Bollywood glamour to the event.

Rani Mukerji shared her excitement and said, “I’m truly honoured and humbled to be a part of this momentous occasion of the launch of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra’s commemorative stamp at the Australian Parliament House. This is not only a celebration of Yash Chopra and YRF’s rich and impactful 50-year-old legacy of shaping pop culture the world over but also of the Indian film industry that has entertained countless people through the power of cinema.”

She added, “The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has been a catalyst for bringing India and Australia closer to each other by championing cultural and creative ties for 15 years now. I’m proud to see the festival grow from strength to strength year on year and act as a bridge connecting the best creative minds of India and Australia.”

Karan Johar & Rani Mukerji Set To Give Keynote Address At Australian Parliament

This event is just the start of their visit to Australia. Johar and Mukerji will give a keynote address at the Australian Parliament House on August 13, just before the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne begins on August 15. Their speech will focus on how cinema can bridge cultures and bring people together across borders.

Their invitation comes after a recent co-production agreement between India and Australia. During their address, Johar and Mukerji will speak to members of parliament, ministers, and other dignitaries, further strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries through cinema.
