Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava is unstoppable at the box office even after a month of its release, but a major piracy leak has cast a shadow over its success.

Despite its historic run in cinemas, the film has been illegally circulated on multiple websites. Maddock Films has taken action against this piracy issue.

Maddock Films Takes Legal Action Against Chhaava Piracy

Maddock Films hired an anti-piracy agency, which identified over 1800 illegal links of the movie. Rajat Rahul Haksar (CEO of August Entertainment) filed a complaint, leading to a case at the South Cyber Police Station.

The case falls under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Copyright Act, Cinematograph Act (Amendment 2023), and the Information Technology Act. Authorities are now working to remove the illegal links and prevent further circulation.

Film’s Historic Box Office Feat

Chhaava is breaking records and has become the first Hindi film to sell over 12 million tickets on BookMyShow, surpassing Stree 2.

At the box office, Chhaava has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark, making it Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing film. It has surpassed his previous hits like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke

As the film completes five weeks in theatres, it continues to outshine new releases like The Diplomat and Crazxy. The film has also outperformed past blockbusters like Uri: The Surgical Strike and Stree 2, securing the highest-ever fifth-week collection for a Hindi film.

Currently, the film stands at Rs 571.40 crore, just Rs 30 crore away from entering the elite Rs 600 crore club.

About Chhaava

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, with Akshaye Khanna in a crucial role.

The period drama portrays the life of the Maratha ruler from his coronation in 1681 to his legendary reign. The film released on February 14 and was later declared tax-free in Goa and Madhya Pradesh.

The film’s impact has also reached political circles. During the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised its success.

He said, “Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai.” He also credited author Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava for highlighting Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy.
