Friday, March 21, has turned into an unofficial ‘Cinema Lovers Day’ as theatres across India slash ticket prices. Unlike previous National Cinema Day or Cinema Lovers Day events, no multiplex association or theatre chain made an official announcement. Still, ticket prices have dropped to record lows.
The Diplomat And Chhaava Kickstart The Wave
The makers of The Diplomat started the trend by announcing that John Abraham’s action-packed film would be available for just Rs 99 in normal seating formats. Soon after, the Chhaava makers joined in with the same offer.
The discounts didn’t stop there. As per a Bollywood Hungama report, More films followed both new and holdovers. Recent and new releases like Superboys Of Malegaon, Crazxy, Tumko Meri Kasam, and Pintu Ki Pappi are now selling tickets for a maximum of Rs 150. Morning shows are even cheaper, priced at Rs 99 or Rs 112.
BOGO Deals & IMAX Steals
The Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) offer is running until Sunday, March 23 for Tumko Meri Kasam. The film stars Anupam Kher, Ishwak Singh, Esha Deol, and Adah Sharma. Fans can grab an extra ticket for free, which makes it a deal to remember.
Even IMAX fans have got special discounts. Tickets for Snow White and the re-release of Interstellar were made available for just Rs 149 in select morning shows. The offer applies to IMAX screens at PVR Lower Parel, Eros Churchgate, and Inox R City Ghatkopar. Even during official celebrations, IMAX tickets were sold for Rs 199, making this a new low for premium screenings.
Festivals, Discounts And Temporary Closures
While some theatres are thriving, others are struggling. The Red Lorry Film Festival 2025, running from March 21 to 23 in Mumbai and Hyderabad, is set to attract big crowds. The festival will showcase classics and Oscar-winning films like Anora and Emilia Pérez, which never got a theatrical release in India due to censorship issues.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety-Galaxy multiplex (also known as G7) is taking a short break. Due to a lack of major releases, its biggest screen, Gaiety, will stay shut until March 29. It will reopen when Salman Khan’s Eid blockbuster Sikandar arrives.
