Singer Arijit Singh is currently dazzling audiences in the UK. However, during a recent concert, he found himself in a challenging situation when a fan requested him to sing his protest song “Aar Kobe.”

This track was inspired by the tragic rape and murder of a young girl in Kolkata. A video capturing this moment was shared on Instagram, showcasing Singh’s candid reaction.

While performing “Ramta Jogi” from Taal, Singh paused mid-performance after hearing the request. He firmly stated, “This is not the place, people haven’t come here to protest. Ya? They have come here to listen to me. That’s my job, right? That is my heart, that one you are saying. Not the right time, right place.”

He asked the fan to take their activism to Kolkata instead. “If you really feel about it, go. Go to Kolkata. Yes. Gather some people, a lot of Bengalis are here. Go on the street. Ya?”

Singh told about the song’s non-commercial nature, explaining, “That song is not monetised. It will never be monetised. It is not copyright. Anybody can use it.” After this exchange, he returned to his performance, making it clear that while he values the message behind “Aar Kobe,” the concert was not the venue for such discussions.

In another viral moment, Singh was seen picking up food left by a fan during his performance. As he sang “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” a fan placed fast food and a drink on stage. Singh promptly handed it to a volunteer and remarked, “I am so sorry. This is my temple, you can’t put food here.”

Adding to the excitement of his UK tour, Singh recently performed alongside British singer Ed Sheeran. This collaboration is part of a growing trend, as Sheeran has been working with various Indian artists. Singh expressed his gratitude to Sheeran for adding his “perfect” touch to the show, which took place on September 15.

As an honour to his talent, Singh also received the Best Male Playback Singer award at the 70th National Film Awards for his moving rendition of “Kesariya” from the film Brahmastra.
