Vivek Agnihotri Responds to Donald Trump’s 100% Tariff on Movies:
“It Will Be A Catastrophic Move Which Will Destroy The Indian Cinema”
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is an outspoken individual, both in his professional work as a filmmaker and in his personal opinions. As the filmmaker of the hard-hitting films The Tashkent Files, The Kashmir Files, and The Vaccine War, Agnihotri is again in the news for a dire reason — his recent response to what U.S. President Donald Trump announced as his latest policy.
On his official X handle, Agnihotri sounded the alarm about Trump’s decision of having a 100% tariff on any movie not made in the United States. He stated that this type of cap on foreign films, in the middle of overcoming global competition and also recovering from the pandemic, is a disastrous move for the Indian film industry, who are “relentlessly moving forward”.
“Trump’s 100% tariff on films is disastrous. If this nonsense goes unchallenged, the Indian film industry will be wiped out for good and no one will save it,”
Agnihotri wrote in his post.
“Indian film industry leaders need to wake up, come together, and fight this threat — not chase yellow journalists and bask in their own glory,”
he added.
Agnihotri challenged the Indian industry to step up and stop focusing on vanity while he could. Many insiders relate to his timeliness in speaking up while paying close attention to the change in global policy we may soon experience regarding any foreign film imports.
