Actor Pooja Hegde who will next be seen in Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, has opened up about the failure of her last film, Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus. The Ranveer Singh-starrer, which was released in December, had a dismal run at the box office, earning less than Rs 40 crore.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Pooja said that she was upset after the film tanked at the box office. She said, “Did it upset me? Yes, a little bit, because it is my baby at the end of the day. But the way I look at it, I only learnt from it. I got to work with Rohit Shetty and comedy legends like Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra. So I think overall, it was a great thing, and people really appreciated me in the film. And I love Rohit sir as a person. He is a great person to deal with and shoot with. So overall, I think I came out a winner.”
Cirkus isn’t Pooja’s first high-profile failure. She previously starred in Radhe Shyam, opposite Prabhas. Mounted on a massive budget of more than Rs 300 crore, the film couldn’t recover its costs at the box office. Reacting to the film’s underperformance, she had told Pinkvilla last year, “What I was happy about was that people were appreciating me in the film. Besides saying that ‘Pooja Hegde looks beautiful’, they were also talking about my performance. How I have really improved as an actor, how my emotional scenes were really good and that made me very happy,
Pooja, who began her acting career with the 2012 Tamil film Mugamoodi, made her Bollywood debut in 2016 with Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro. She has been a part of films such as Acharya, with Chiranjeevi; and Beast, with Vijay. In the film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, she plays the role of Bhagyalaxmi. Helmed by Farhad Samji, the upcoming family entertainer, will be released in theatres on April 21.
