The cinema industry struggled a lot during the pandemic. Because of it, the directors decided to cut the 8-week gap between the theatrical release and the OTT debut to just 4 weeks as a result. After the movie industry began to steadily recover, it resumed enforcing the previous regulation as of August 1, 2022. Since then, all films that have been released in theatres have taken an average of 8 weeks to make it to the major streaming services.
‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Bhediya’, two of last year’s top movies, are yet to appear on any OTT platform, despite the fact that the former was released in theatres 19 weeks ago and the latter 11 weeks ago. Many cinema lovers are pondering the reasons behind it and may be seen chatting about it on social media.
A reliable source told Bollywood Hungama, “Both Vikram Vedha and Bhediya will be premiered on the new super-app of Jio. This super-app is going to be launched soon and is sure to become a talking point. Along with the premieres of Vikram Vedha and Bhediya, it’s the app where IPL (Indian Premier League) 2023 will also be aired.”
While another source stated, “The idea is to premiere not just ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Bhediya’ but also several other films. As per the plan, every week, there’ll be a film premiere. While some of these are theatrical releases, a few of them will get a direct OTT release. The list of all these films will be hopefully unveiled at the time of the launch of the super-app.”
On September 30, 2022, the movie ‘Vikram Vedha’ was released, starring Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, and Radhika Apte. Pushkar-Gayatri, who also directed the 2017 Tamil film of the same name with co-stars R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi, is the film’s director. Contrarily, Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan appeared in Amar Kaushik’s directional ‘Bhediya’.
