Will Singh Is Kinng 2 Happen With A Fresh Cast? Sequel Can’t Be Made Without Akshay Kumar’s Consent For THIS Reason

Singh Is Kinng 2 can’t happen without Akshay Kumar’s approval, as he holds 50% of the film's rights. Read for more details.

The excitement around Singh Is Kinng 2 took an unexpected turn this week. Producer Shailendra Singh revealed plans for a sequel to the 2008 hit comedy. However, he revealed that the sequel would not feature the OG actor Akshay Kumar as lead.

Instead, Singh suggested that either Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh could take over the role of Happy Singh. Fans of the original film were disappointed, wanting Akshay to continue the franchise. But there’s good news for Akshay’s fans.

Singh Is Kinng 2 Can’t Be Made Without Akshay Kumar’s Involvement

Sources close to the project said that Akshay Kumar’s production company owns 50% of the rights to Singh Is Kinng. This means that no sequel can be made without his approval.

A source told Pinkvilla, “Akshay Kumar owns 50% of the IP for Singh Is Kinng. Anyone who wishes to make a part two has to make it with Akshay or needs an NOC from his end to roll without his involvement.”

The source went on to explain that Akshay has no plans to give up his share of the film rights. He and his team are willing to make a sequel only when they find the right script.

“Akshay and his team are in no mood to part ways with the rights of Singh Is Kinng and will make a part two when they find a banging script for the same,” the source added.

Akshay Kumar’s Team ‘Confirms’ No Sequel Without Akki

An official from Akshay Kumar’s legal team also confirmed this. They stated that no one, including Shailendra Singh, has the authority to produce a prequel or sequel without Akshay’s involvement. The official said, “Mr. Akshay Kumar is the co-owner of the film, Singh Is Kinng, and all the rights, title, interest, etc., of the film. Any assertions, statements, claims, etc., made by Mr. Shailendra Singh, in the article published in the newspaper, Mid-day on 11th November, 2024, with respect to the film, are entirely false and untrue.”

Released in 2008, Singh Is Kinng became a massive hit, with Akshay’s portrayal of the fun-loving Happy Singh becoming iconic. The film’s dialogues, music, and humour are still relatable to the fans today.
