The much loved family entertainer Yamla Pagla Deewana is all set to return to the big screen on January 1, 2026. This re release will serve as a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025 at the age of 89.
The 2011 blockbuster comedy stars Dharmendra alongside his two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. The decision to bring this film back to theatres is a beautiful way to celebrate the life and legacy of an actor who left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema. Fans across the country will get the chance to experience the magic of the Deol family together on the big screen once again.
Why This Film Is Perfect For A Re Release
Yamla Pagla Deewana is the ideal choice for a theatrical re run. The film is not very old, still looks fresh and entertaining, and features all three Deol men in strong roles with plenty of screen time. The combination of comedy, action, and family drama made it a huge success when it first released.
NH Studioz, which holds the rights to the film, had initially planned to re release it on December 19. However, due to the massive success and ongoing wave of Dhurandhar at the box office, the studio decided to shift the release date. The new date of January 1, 2026 will allow the film to start the new year on a celebratory note.
The Story Behind The Title And Film
The title Yamla Pagla Deewana was inspired by the iconic song Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana from the 1975 film Pratigya, which also starred Dharmendra. A remixed version of this title track was included in the 2011 film and became hugely popular with audiences.
The film was directed by Samir Karnik and told the story of an Indian man living in Canada who travels to Banaras to find his estranged brother and father. The plot thickens when the trio heads to Punjab to help the younger brother win over his love interest while dealing with her crazy family.
Box Office Success And Sequels
When Yamla Pagla Deewana first released, it opened with a strong Rs. 7.95 crores, which was considered a healthy number at that time. The film went on to collect Rs. 55.28 crores in its lifetime run. Audiences loved the comedy, mass appeal, and most importantly, the fact that Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol all had equally strong and entertaining roles.
The success of the original led to two sequels, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 in 2013 and Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se in 2018. Unfortunately, both sequels failed to recreate the magic of the first film and did not perform well at the box office.
