Ever since the advent of OTT (over-the-top) platforms or streaming platforms has taken place, the viewing habits of the audience have drastically changed. Now, we don’t need to go to the theatre to watch our favorite film or wait for weeks for our favorite show. Now, everything is just one click away that one can enjoy in the comfort of their home. So here is a list of five new releases across different platforms that you can enjoy this weekend with your loved ones.
1) Lust Stories 2
A sequel to the 2018 Lust Stories, Lust Stories 2 is directed by a bunch of talented names like Konkana Sen Sharma, Sujoy Ghosh, R. Balki, and Amit Sharma. It features an ensemble cast of Kajol, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Neena Gupta, Angad Bedi, Tillotama Shome, and Mrunal Thakur, among others. Each story explores the theme of sexuality and lust. If we go by the consensus, Konkana’s short film starring Tillotama Shome stands out in this entire anthology series, thanks to her masterful direction and the strong performances of its actors.
2) The Night Manager Part 2
The second part of the much talked about Disney+ Hotstar series The Night Manager is out now. Starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Shobhita Dhulipala, the series has been well-received by people across the board. It is an official remake of the 2016 eponymous British series and unlike other remakes, this one has been made masterfully. The first part of the series was released on 16 February this year while the last three episodes dropped on 29 June.
3) Afwaah
Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Sudhir Mishra, Afwaah tackles the important issue of misinformation and mob mentality. It stars Nawazuddin Siddique, Bhumi Pednekar, and Sumeet Vyas in lead roles. Nawaz and Sudhir’s last outing, Serious Men, had met with critical acclaim and won several international awards. This one was also well received critically when it was released theatrically on May 5. Now, the masterpiece is available on Netflix for you to enjoy.
4) Sergeant
Randeep Hooda recently headlined JioCinema’s action crime web series, Inspector Avinash. He has now come up with another project called Sergeant. Directed by Prawaal Raman, this series chronicles the life of a police officer who goes beyond his line of duty to solve a crime. Apart from Randeep, the show also stars Adil Hussain, Sapna Pabbi, and Arun Govil in important roles. Randeep, who is one of the finest talents of India, gets to shine in this well-written and gripping series.
5) The Witcher Season 3
The third season of the much-awaited Netflix fantasy series The Witcher is out now. It follows the journey of Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) as well as Yennefer of Vengerberg and Princess Ciri. The second part of this season will premiere on July 27. Season 3 is particularly special because it is the last time we will see Henry portraying the lead role. In season 4, he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
