Alia Bhatt’s latest action thriller Jigra has been making waves at the box office, especially in the international circuit. Directed by Vasan Bala and co-starring Vedang Raina, the film was released on October 11, 2024, coinciding with the Dussehra festival.

Despite facing competition from other releases like Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Vettaiyan in India, Jigra has managed to carve its own path overseas.

The film, which centres on a determined woman fighting to free her brother from prison, received a mixed response from critics and audiences.

Some praised its emotional depth and Alia’s powerful performance, while others felt the plot lacked punch. However, that hasn’t stopped it from doing well internationally, especially in key markets like the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

The film made $545K from the USA and Canada alone. Other notable markets include Australia, where it collected $88K, and New Zealand, contributing $16K. The UK and Ireland brought in a solid $149K, while Germany added €14.3K to the pot.

Alia Bhatt Starrer In Top 10 Opening Weekend Grossers In UK & Germany

This overseas success has pushed Jigra into the top 10 opening weekends for Indian films in both the UK and Germany.

In the UK, the film earned £114K in its debut weekend, placing it seventh on the list of highest Indian opening weekends. The list is led by Fighter with £591K, followed by Stree 2 and Crew. Jigra has managed to surpass several other big films and continues to hold its ground.

Germany has also welcomed Jigra with open arms. The film scored the seventh-highest debut weekend for an Indian movie, earning €14.3K. It outperformed films like Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Chandu Champion, solidifying its place in the top 10.

Despite mixed reviews, Alia Bhatt’s performance in Jigra has been widely appreciated, which seems to be a driving factor in its box office performance.

About Jigra Movie

Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is an action thriller that showcases Alia Bhatt as Satya, a fierce sister determined to rescue her brother from a foreign prison. Vedang Raina plays her brother, Ankur, while the supporting cast includes Sobhita Dhulipala, Manoj Pahwa, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. The film explores Satya’s intense and emotional journey to reunite with her brother, testing their bond and inner strength.

Despite its star-studded cast and high expectations, Jigra has had a challenging start at the box office. The film earned Rs 18.10 crore over its first four days, which is decent but not stellar.

However, it saw a significant drop on the first Monday, raking in only Rs 1.50 crore. This underperformance has been linked to mixed reviews and lower-than-expected audience turnout.
