Main Vaapas Aaunga Heads For Flop Run At Box Office, Diljit Dosanjh And Naseeruddin Shah Starrer Reaches Rs 3 Crore In Two Days

Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga has opened to a sobering box office reality. Despite a visible jump on Saturday, the Diljit Dosanjh and Naseeruddin Shah-led film is still staring at a weak theatrical start, with its first two days adding up to just Rs 3 crore nett in India.

The film collected Rs 1.15 crore on Day 1 and followed it with Rs 1.85 crore on Day 2, a 60 percent rise from Friday. That growth offered some relief, but not enough to change the early trajectory of a film that needed far stronger momentum from the outset. At the current pace, Main Vaapas Aaunga is heading toward an opening weekend of around Rs 5 crore nett, which puts it in a tough position this early in its run.

Day 2 Box Office Update

The film’s Saturday jump suggests some audience movement, but the overall start remains underwhelming for a title mounted by an acclaimed filmmaker and fronted by recognisable names. Imtiaz Ali’s films have often relied on audience discovery rather than explosive openings, yet there were expectations that the emotional romance would pull in better initial traction thanks to its cast and the director’s loyal following.

The response so far points to a different outcome. Positive to mixed word-of-mouth has come in for the film, but ticket sales have not reflected that appreciation in a meaningful way. Unless the film stages an exceptional turnaround over the next few days, it risks ending its run far below expectations. Right now, Main Vaapas Aaunga appears headed for a disappointing box office finish and may struggle to mount a respectable total.

The Film Behind The Numbers

Released in theatres on June 12, 2026, Main Vaapas Aaunga is a Hindi romantic drama directed by Imtiaz Ali and written by Ali with Nayanika Mahtani. The cast includes Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari, with music composed by A. R. Rahman. The film was produced by Applause Entertainment, Birla Studios, and Window Seat Films.

Set against the backdrop of Partition and decades of unresolved longing, the story follows an elderly man revisiting a love that never truly left him. The narrative moves between past and present, tying memory, separation, and romance into a deeply emotional arc.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Diljit Dosanjh has stayed consistently active across both theatrical and OTT spaces. In 2024, he appeared in Crew and then led Amar Singh Chamkila, which premiered on Netflix and marked his first collaboration with Imtiaz Ali. In 2025, he starred in Detective Sherdil, adding another streaming release to his recent slate.

In 2026, he appeared in Border 2 and followed it with Main Vaapas Aaunga, another collaboration with Ali. Looking ahead, No Entry 2 remains a confirmed upcoming release in his Hindi film lineup. The run underlines Diljit’s range across commercial entertainers, streaming originals, and director-driven dramas, even as Main Vaapas Aaunga struggles to translate its artistic appeal into box office strength.
