Sooryavanshi, directed by Rohit Shetty, is the first film to re-enter theatres after an 18-month hiatus. The makers set up their biggies for release this year as soon as the Maharashtra government declared its decision to reopen the theatres in October, blocking all of the important dates even if it meant massive box office battles. However, it appears that the makers of Sooryavanshi are not interested in a fight.
According to ETimes, the makers of the Akshay-Katrina Kaif starrer have demanded a 100 percent screen count in multiplexes, implying that no other film will be shown on Diwali with Sooryavanshi. Surprisingly, the theatre owners have apparently agreed to give Sooryavanshi entire screens upon its November 5 release, bypassing Marvel’s Eternals and Salman Khan’s Antim, both of which are rumoured to be releasing on the same day, though no official announcement has been made.
According to the report, the theatre owners see it as a fair demand because the filmmakers honoured their word by not releasing the film on an OTT platform and instead waited for the theatres to reopen.
While Eternals is a major superhero drama that will be released internationally on November 5, the makers of Antim have yet to announce a release date. It’s impossible to believe Marvel will find a new release date for Eternals in India, whether on screens or not.
The release of Sooryavanshi is significant for both single-screen and multiplex owners. While multiplexes have struggled to resurrect the box office, many single screens across the country only operate when a film as huge as Sooryavanshi is scheduled to be released. In fact, many cinema halls in places where cinemas have already reopened will exclusively show Sooryavanshi.
