Alia Bhatt’s Jigra didn’t perform well at the box office even though it received positive reviews. However, since it landed on Netflix this Friday, the film has started gaining attention. Viewers have been sharing their thoughts on X (Twitter) after watching it on the streaming platform.
Hansal Mehta Praises Jigra With No Credits To Vedang Raina
Director Hansal Mehta tweeted his praise for the movie and called it better than trash blockbusters. He said, “Very late in the day but finally saw ‘Jigra’. It’s full of Jigra. Vasan’s Jigra. Alia’s Jigra. Karan’s Jigra.”
Mehta highlighted how the film avoids typical melodrama, especially the usual sibling plot. Instead, it presents Satya (Alia) as a complex character. He appreciated the film’s raw and honest storytelling, which doesn’t try to manipulate the audience’s emotions.
Mehta also praised the music & called it “terrific” and a perfect match for the film’s mood. He ended his tweet with strong words of support: “This is good filmmaking, far removed from what trash gets peddled in the name of ‘giant blockbusters’. Go Vasan go!”
Very late in the day but finally saw ‘Jigra’. It’s full of Jigra. Vasan’s Jigra. Alia’s Jigra. Karan’s Jigra. The film consciously avoids a melodramatic bhai-behen setup, doesn’t set up its protagonists in a manipulative way, it makes Satya almost like an impenetrable fortress,… pic.twitter.com/Gzjqi7jHWt

#Jigra might not match #Kill in terms of the technical prowess – but still holds it’s own. #Jigra was a more than satisfying watch for me. pic.twitter.com/scOxAvbRyE

About Jigra
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is Alia Bhatt’s solo release in 2024. It also stars Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa, and Vivek Gomber in supporting roles. The film follows Satya Anand (Alia Bhatt), a sister who embarks on a dangerous journey to rescue her brother, Ankur (Vedang Raina). The story focuses on themes of family, sacrifice, and determination, with high emotional stakes.
Jigra is produced by Dharma Productions and presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The script was co-written by Debashish Irengbam and Vasan Bala. One of the best moments in the film is the recreation of the iconic song “Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka” with Vedang Raina’s vocal performance adding a nostalgic yet modern touch.
Although Jigra was praised by critics, it didn’t perform well at the box office amid competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. The film sadly failed to make much of an impact at cinemas. However, its success on Netflix shows it may find a stronger audience over time.
