Veteran actor Annu Kapoor recently shared a past experience with actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui that left him with a very poor impression. Speaking on a podcast, Kapoor recalled an on-stage interview where he found the Gangs of Wasseypur star to be ‘frivolous’ and ‘chhichhora’ (a colloquial term for someone who is cheap or flippant).
The incident has sparked conversation online, with many surprised to hear about the awkward interaction between the two acclaimed actors. Annu Kapoor did not hold back, explaining exactly what led him to form this opinion of his colleague.
A Disappointing First Impression
Annu Kapoor explained that years ago, he was invited to a club in Goa to interview Nawazuddin Siddiqui in front of an audience. Before the event, Kapoor did his research and was highly impressed to learn that Nawazuddin had an MSc in Chemistry. He went into the interview with a lot of respect, hoping to discuss life, science, and the actor’s journey.
However, the conversation did not go as planned. According to Kapoor, Nawazuddin was very reserved and gave only short, one-sentence answers. This made the interaction difficult, as Kapoor was expecting a deep and engaging discussion but was met with silence. The initial admiration he felt quickly began to fade.
The ‘Sasta Comment’ That Changed Everything
Trying to make the event more interesting for the audience, Annu Kapoor decided to switch topics and lighten the mood by asking about Nawazuddin’s love life. When asked about his past girlfriends, Nawazuddin reportedly replied, “many came and many left.”
This response did not sit well with Annu Kapoor. He found the comment to be extremely disrespectful towards the women from Nawazuddin’s past. “Why would you say something like that for a woman and that too on a public platform? Ye bahut hi sasta comment hai (it’s a cheap comment),” Kapoor stated, adding that this was the moment he felt Nawazuddin was being a ‘chhichhora’.
An Awkward On-Stage Interaction
The rest of the event was just as awkward. Annu Kapoor revealed that since he wasn’t getting much from Nawazuddin, he had to do all the talking himself just to keep the show going. The event organizers later complained to him about it.
Kapoor clarified that he didn’t feel personally disrespected by Nawazuddin. Instead, he felt that by making such a comment, Nawazuddin was disrespecting himself. Annu Kapoor was last seen in the film Jolly LLB 3, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui is preparing for the release of his film Thamma with Ayushmann Khurrana.
